All year long we look forward to our annual trip to Pensacola! The kids start the countdown at the beginning of summer. This year we left a day early and spent the night in Baton Rouge. The next morning we got up and went to see LSU's campus and "Mike the Tiger". It was an amazing campus and Mike was super cool, even though he slept the whole time.
After seeing the campus we continued on our way to Florida! The Arkansas crew (aka Nana, Papa Doc, Aunt Kara, Uncle Tim, Nate, Zac and Ben) arrived not long after us and we all headed out to the beach. The waves were great for surfing...so that is what we did! Uncle Tim brought his surf board and helped all the kids learn to surf. They did great! Molly was a little surfer girl and kept asking Uncle Tim to go again and again! He was so patient and I know he must have been exhausted after helping everyone surf. The next day Papa Doc, Tim, Kara and Richard all gave it a try too. I am pleased to say...they all got up, but the waves weren't big enough to keep them up! The rest of the week the water was unseasonably calm. There were no waves, no seaweed...it was the clearest, most beautiful green water I had ever seen in Florida. We spent the next several days playing Frisbee-catch in the ocean, bocce ball on the beach, digging holes and snorkeling for shells. We were so excited when Mar-Mar, Uncle Jim and Sloan joined us near the end of the week. They are always so much fun and are the best at taking us crabbing! We beat our record and caught 255 crabs - WOW! Nana and Papa Doc also kept the tradition of going to Alvin's Island alive...giving each of the kids money to spend on souvenirs (always a highlight)! Each night we had wonderful seafood and the kids had fun catching crabs, playing catch and feeding fish. We ate at all of our favorites...Peg Leg Pete's, Crab's, Flounder's and Red Fish, Blue Fish. It was a perfect week making memories with family! The kids loved every minute of the time they got to spend together and will always cherish these trips. Get ready for lots of pictures!
