My sweet boy is 8 years old...where does the time go? At eight years old, Matthew, you love being with your friends, making people laugh, playing baseball/football/soccer (although you say baseball is your favorite), riding your bike, playing board games, building with legos, watching TV, playing dodgeball and capture the flag, playing your itouch and hanging out with your cousins. I could add many more things, but those are the things that tend to occupy your time these days. You are tough around your friends, but still love to hang out and snuggle with me and your daddy. You are smart, funny, loving, caring, outgoing and so much more!
On your actual birthday, we had donuts for breakfast (per your request), went to the Aquatic Center for some swimming fun and headed to daddy's softball game with Chick-fil-a. Chocolate cake was on the agenda after the game...but we had to postpone that until the next day due to daddy's trip to the ER. Even with daddy and me missing, you still managed to have a great rest of your birthday by spending the night with a buddy...what a treat. We love you so much and have been blessed beyond measure by having 8 wonderful years with you. You make us so proud to be your parents!
Just what he asked for...the Lego Police Station! Yes, that is a happy smile!
Of course, even with daddy out of commission, we still continued on with our plan to have Matthew's birthday party at our house on Sunday, June 24. With 25 boys headed to the house for a 4 hour party (yes...4 hours!!!), lets just say that mommy didn't get much sleep! Matthew wanted a baseball theme...so baseball it was! The festivities were held at Williams Field. The first two hours were filled with swimming, dinner (pizza, chips and watermelon) and pinata smashing! After gathering every last bit of candy, the boys were split up into four teams. Richard made a baseball trivia sheet of 20 questions. Each team was working for money...definitely a motivation for those boys. They will do just about anything for a dollar! After trivia time, all the boys headed upstairs to watch "Everyone's Hero". Concessions were open and those boys had fun eating and watching the movie together. I can't believe they all actually watched the movie! We have some sweet friends that helped me run the party and I was so thankful to have their help. Remember...daddy can't do anything on crutches and he wasn't feeling the greatest either! The party was a success and I was worn out by the time the last party-goer left. Whew! Until next year....
These are pictures from all the years Matthew has played baseball...
Each of Matthew's friends signed his keepsake bat before they left
Dinner time!
The sweet mommies that stayed to help!
Matthew said the pinata was his favorite part of the party. Note to self...have a 1 hour party next year with a pinata and he will be happy! :)
Happy Birthday to you!
The boys were all singing the "Happy Birthday" song!
Make a wish big guy!
Loved seeing all the boys all snug and watching a movie!
Richard was revealing the answers to the trivia and which team won!
Happy birthday, Matthew! Hope you had a birthday you will always remember. We love you!
