It's been a while since I last blogged. The last blog post I wrote was on September 4. We were having a great week. We had gone home to Arkansas for Labor Day weekend and had a wonderful time. That Sunday, we had been to Hot Springs to see Richard's sister, mom, Guy, grandmother, uncle, our neices...we had a great day. Richard's mom, Shelia, always makes sure everything is perfect when we come...we had a BBQ for lunch, lots of dessert and a big cookie cake to celebrate Richard's 39th birthday! We had lots of laughs and so enjoyed our visit. While we were there, Richard's mom told us she thought she had another blood clot in her arm. About a month earlier, she had had surgery on her arm to remove a blockage to one of her main arteries and she felt like it was back. She teared up a little while telling us, but said she wasn't going to the emergency room until she spent time with all of us that day. I am so thankful for this day...
Shelia had surgery to remove a blockage in her arm that Monday night. She called Richard for his birthday the next day and said she was feeling good. However, on Wednesday, September 6, Shelia suffered a massive stroke sometime during the middle of the night. She must have had another clot that reached her brain and blocked air to a large portion of her left hemisphere. That is a call that you are not prepared for and is heartbreaking to get. She was nonresponsive for many days. Her journey to regain movement in her right side, speech, memory, etc has been amazing. Guy, Shelia's husband, has been by her side the entire time. What a gift from God he has been. They celebrated their 19th wedding anniversary this past Tuesday. Shelia's family and friends have shown so much support and loved her every step of the way during her recovery. Ashley, Richard's sister, has been with Shelia almost every day and attends most therapy sessions with her...such a blessing that she is able to do this. Shelia has been at Baptist Health Rehabilitation Institute for over 40 days...it has been a wonderful place for her and we are so thankful for the improvements she has made while being there. It has been overwhelming to hear of the prayers that have gone up for her. The day I got to spend with her was such an emotional day. I am so proud of the effort she puts forth in all her therapy sessions...she is not one to give up. She is a fighter. I know that God has sustained us all through this and he will continue to heal Shelia and give Guy and the family strength as they continue to help her along her road to recovery. Shelia definitely still has her spunk and loves to laugh and make others laugh. Please lift her up in prayer and pray for continued healing. Here are a few pictures that Ashley has taken.
