Christmas with Nana

Christmas was a blur this year.  How is it even possible to celebrate and smile when your heart is in a million pieces?  Nana had told us she wanted to go ahead and celebrate Christmas with the kids.  It is what Papa would have wanted.  The Oosterhous crew came to Nana's after their visit from Santa and we spent the day loving on Nana and opening presents with the kids.  Nana had already made the dressing several days before and somehow we put together a Christmas meal.  Nana and Papa Doc had eaten a small pan of the dressing for dinner earlier in the week.  So glad dad got to enjoy one of his favorite meals with Nana.  He always raved about what a good cook she was!  The kids were wonderful that day and understood how difficult it was, even though we tried to put up a good front.  I love the pictures we got of Nana and the grandkids...but my heart aches for Papa to be in them too.

This was the ornament Nana had gotten for Papa Doc.  It was a camper to remind him of the one he had just finished renovating for him and Nana.  He was so proud of that camper!

I found this present for Nana in a closet upstairs.  It was from Papa Doc...a new shirt and pants.

Before the day was over, we had each of the grandkids pick a hat from Papa Doc and one of his motorcycle collectibles.  They were so proud and will cherish these things from Papa Doc.

Merry Christmas in Heaven, Papa Doc!
