Ski Trip to Beaver Creek, Colorado

What a great week we had in Beaver Creek!  We decided to try somewhere new this year and fell in love with Beaver Creek.  This was our first year to fly to Colorado (usually it is a long two day drive).  We flew into Eagle Vail and only had a twenty minute car ride to Beaver Creek...that was amazing!  When we arrived the weather was sunny, roads were clear and the temperature was in the 30's.  After eating lunch and checking in to our condo, the kids wanted to check out the mountain.  We decided to start the week off with some tubing!  The kids had a lot of fun doing this while Richard and I watched :)  We walked around the square and decided to go ahead and let the kids go ice skating.  We were guessing they would be too tired after skiing the next few days.  They enjoyed the skating and making us nervous with a few of their "spills".  After dinner we headed to the room to get some rest for the kids first day of ski school!

The kids woke up ready to hit the mountain!  They were so excited to go to ski school and barely looked back to wave bye.  While they were at ski school the first day, Richard and I drove around Beaver Creek checking everything out.  It is a beautiful place!  We had lunch at a restaurant that had a wall of windows facing the mountain.  It was fun watching everyone ski down while we were eating.  Throughout the day we kept wondering how the kids were doing.  At pick up time they said they loved it and wanted to keep skiing.  So glad all went well!

Before the first day of ski school:

Richard and I skied the next three days.  The weather was perfect Monday thru Wednesday, then the snowstorm moved in!  Each day after ski school we would take the kids up for a few runs.  It always amazes me how fast they learn and what little fear they have (especially Molly!).  We ended up getting Matthew from ski school at lunch on Wednesday and skiing the afternoon with him.  He loves skiing through the trees and took us on several trails.  I laughed because Richard got more bumps and bruises on this trip than the trip he went on a few weeks before with the guys!  Once when we were skiing through the woods his ski got caught on a rock or something and he went straight down.  Once I knew he was okay I had to laugh.  He went down in about two seconds flat!  We mostly skied blues with Matthew and even did a black!

The snow started moving in on Thursday afternoon and did not stop the rest of the time we were there.  We ended up getting 23 inches in about 24 hours!  On Thursday morning we ended up taking Molly to the ER before we hit the slopes.  She woke up with croup and needed some steroids to help clear her up before the flight home.  The doctor cleared her to ski, so we didn't let a little croup stop us!  We didn't put the kids in ski school the last day and took them up with us.  It was a really hard day to ski with Molly because the snow was so deep for her - it was up to her knees!  Richard and I were exhausted at the end of the day after lots of tugging, pulling, pushing, etc!  She was a trooper though and ended up doing several blues just so we could keep her going and not have to pole!

Getting home was a bit tough, but we finally made it!  After two cancelled flights from Vail, we headed to Denver to catch a late flight.  Luckily, after deicing the plane, we headed back to Texas.  A big "Thank You" to Papaw Curtis for staying with Jasper and taking care of things at the house for us!
